What is Adventure-Based Therapy?
Adventure therapy is a powerful form of hands-on and outdoor-based experiential therapy that inspires emotional healing. Nachum utilizes physical activities such as, mountain biking, hiking, sports, and general exercise as alternative tools to interact with and build a bond with his clients. Adventure-based therapy provides opportunities for growth and self-understanding. Nachum specializes in working with adolescent and youth.
Why does Adventure-Based Therapy Work?
-
Studies show that spending time in nature decreases levels of stress, depression and anxiety. Adventure-based therapy allows individuals to experience the therapeutic properties of nature. Nature can inspire newfound tranquility and positivity. It encourages more positive social behaviors and helps one focus on something bigger than themselves. Furthermore, unplugging from technology and spending time in nature helps regulate mood.
-
Adventure-based therapy is successful because it removes individuals from mental health settings and allows them to reflect on themselves and their triggers in a more natural, less stressful way. Adventure-based therapy patients partake in goal-based activities that provide insight into their unique mental traits and challenges. In addition, Adventure-based therapy promotes emotional healing by removing individuals from environmental factors that may be contributing to their issues and or helping them avoid confronting their challenges.
